Replicas
Another area of growing interest to me is the number of replicas of
early sailing ships we are seeing over recent years. Examples are
The Bounty and The Endeavour. There are others, some quite exotic in
their design. You will find some of these assembled for viewing on
these pages. As I am able to gather more I will be adding them to
this site. I understand that in France the Association France
II-Renaissance is moving ahead with plans to build a replica of that
huge barquentine, La France II, originally launched at Bordeaux in
1911 and the largest sailing ship ever built. I have featured her on
my "Working Ships" site. The replica was scheduled to begin in 1998
and to be completed in the summer of 2000. This magnificent ship
will be a working replica earning it's keep with charter and
passenger work. What a sight that will be! I hope to have more
information about this as it comes to hand. To follow the Replica
story click the pics. I have added more information with each
picture.
Note: This is a 'task in progress' so check back as opportunity
offers. Thank you.
